SRINAGAR: Dr Ashraf Ganie officially assumed the role of Director at Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) on Wednesday.
Previously the Head of the Department of Endocrinology, Dr Ganie was warmly greeted by departmental heads and senior officials of SKIMS upon his arrival. While speaking to Kashmir Life expressed his dedication to raising the institute to international standards.
“The warm welcome I received here gives me hope that we can collectively elevate this institution to global recognition,” he said.
Dr Ganie said his initial focus will be enhancing patient care and integrating research into patient treatment and administrative practices. He pointed out that research-driven initiatives are vital for the institution’s advancement.
“I have identified key areas for improvement. Given that the institute was without a full-time director for some time, my top priority for the first 100 days is to optimise patient care, thereby reducing mortality and morbidity rates,” he said.
Dr Ganie also shared his vision of bringing SKIMS to an international platform by seeking and incorporating expertise from diverse sources. He underscored the importance of collaborative efforts to rejuvenate the institution’s standing.
“I am committed to securing top-tier expertise and support from various sectors to enhance SKIMS. This commitment stems from my desire to see the institution thrive, despite having left positions that might seem more prestigious to some,” he added.
